Yeah, we know. It’s kind of a different name. Well, it’s kind of a different place. In fact, when we built the first one we didn’t know what to call it until an agent simply said “it’s a great place to chill”.
So what is it? Some would say it’s a real estate office. Others would say it’s a funky renovation with hipster decor. Even more, would say it's a shared workspace for weary mobile agents to re-charge. To be fair - it’s all of these things and you really have to visit it to get it.
When our founder Otto Cedeno was building the Movil concept, one that centers around a mobile agent that is immediately available to current and prospective clients, he quickly realized agents would need a place to “touch down”. But like everything we do, it had to be different. He couldn’t imagine another plain corporate office, with boring cubicles, a cold conference room, and telephone banks where endless and annoying cold calls were made. The experience he wanted for his clients and his agents had to be better.
Our first location was right on Main St. in downtown Durham. It’s small to be sure, but you can’t beat the location. The 100+-year-old First National Bank building across the street from The Underground is where we started and it’s still got a great feel.
The Chill Place really flourished when we renovated an old home on the historic Fayetteville St. An old four square, is now a hip oasis for clients, agents, lenders, partners, heck even neighbors. With working areas downstairs, an X-Box and hammocks upstairs and homemade arepas most mornings, and office has never felt more like home.
Now as we’re expanding west, the latest chill place is a full-fledged factory of innovation for entrepreneurs, start-ups, and real estate-related firms. Situated in downtown Burlington, it provides space for underserved professionals and our growing team of agents. You can read more about that building here.
